Kim Kardashian West, of reality television fame as well as the wife of oftentimes controversial hip-hop artist and entrepreneur Kayne West, has just seemingly joined the growing group of celebrities who have used Bitcoin – albeit with a twist.
More specifically, Kardashian West shared an Instagram Story showing her staking physical Bitcoin in a poker game, to which she added ”We moved onto bitcoin!”.
This came during the ”If Only” Texas Hold’em Charity Poker event yesterday, intended to raise funds for the nonprofit cancer research and treatment center City of Hope.
In addition to Kim Kardashian West, her sisters Kendall Jenner and Khloé Kardashian as well as mom Kris Jenner were in attendance at the If Only event.
Although this story might seem anecdotal, Kardashian West’s Instagram endorsement of Bitcoin is not to be scoffed at.
The reality television star has amassed an immense Instagram following of more than 114 million followers, meaning that her mention of Bitcoin is sure to reach millions all around the globe.
Moreover, Kardashian West recently received the CDFA Fashion Awards ”Influencer Award”, being branded the ”most important and powerful influencer in the world”.
Furthermore, at that time Tommy Hilfiger commented on her influence, stating that ”Every time she wears, posts or talks about a […] brand, there is an immediate and significant increase in both awareness and sales”.
A story from earlier this year highlights the massive influence wielded by the Kardashian family. At the time Kardashian West’s sister, Kylie Jenner, who only touts a comparatively modest 24.5 million Twitter followers, publicly commented on Snapchat’s controversial redesign.
Jenner’s comments on the issue – indicating that she was unsatisfied with the redesign – led Snapchat stock to plummet, reducing the company’s value by a massive $1.3 billion in value in mere hours.
It is still unclear whether Kim Kardashian West’s mention and use of Bitcoin will lead to a ”Kardashian effect” reflected in the price of Bitcoin – although she does have a significantly larger Instagram following than her sister had on Twitter at the time of Jenner’s Snapchat-related comments.
This is not the first time the Kardashian West family has commented on cryptocurrency. Kardashian West’s husband, Kanye West, has previously expressed his dissatisfaction with fiat currency in May of this year.
Moreover, Kanye West also made significant headlines in April of this year, when he concisely tweeted ”decentralize”. Although he never explicitly clarified the intent behind this tweet, many followers interpreted it as urging people to begin adopting decentralized technologies such as cryptocurrency.
